Regulations May Be Coming To CBD Products In New York

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – New York State is on track to regulate CBD and hemp products, with lawmakers saying the rules are needed to protect consumers as the market for such products booms. Those regulations have now come in a bill co-sponsored by state Sen. Jen Metzger. While marijuana legalization overall failed in Albany, this bill was salvaged and passed the Legislature on the last day of the session. “The FDA has not put forward federal regulations yet and it’s kind of been left to the state at this point,” Metzger said. She says the goal is to help the consumer. “That they’re getting a quality product that’s been tested and that has accurate labeling information,” she said. CBD products are popping up everywhere, from ice cream to coffee to pet products. Metzger’s bill mandates licenses...

CBD Could Be Used as Antibiotic, Researchers Say

A cannabis product could be used as an antibiotic one day, Australian researchers say. According to research presented at the American Society for Microbiology’s annual meeting, which takes place June 20-24 in San Francisco, the cannabis compound cannabidiol, more commonly known as CBD, holds potential for being used as an antibiotic one day. Researchers found CBD “had a similar potency to established antibiotics such as vancomycin and daptomycin, and did not lose effectiveness after extended treatment.” Dr. Mark Blaskovich, one of the researchers from the Institute for Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland, told the Daily News that studies showed CBD worked “in vivo” or in animal models, as a topical treatment or possibly on bacteria on the skin before surgery. From budgeti...

Kids These Days: Younger Generation Now Prefers Cannabis Over Alcohol

Cannabis legalization can mean something different for each person. For some, it can represent a solid help for their medical ailment. For others, it can become a chance to be open and honest about their recreational habits. Legalization can affect each individual in a personal fashion. Yet, from a general perspective, there are two main consequences that derive from legalization policies. One is greater and simplified access to marijuana. The other is a decrease in the stigma associated with its consumption. Based on this perspective, cannabis research firm New Frontier Data set out to find out how these consequences are affecting alcohol consumption. In the first report of their Cannabis Consumer Series, the firm explores the intersection of both industries. Their aim was to get a glimps...

National Poll Finds 61 Percent of Americans in Favor of Legalizing Marijuana

Cannabidiol 101: Why Isn’t CBD Intoxicating?

Since the non-intoxicating compound in marijuana, cannabidiol (CBD), hit the mainstream a few years ago, with its ability to provide relief from a variety of health conditions from chronic pain to seizures, now it seems that everyone wants in on the remedy. In a lot of ways, CBD has become a socially acceptable way for the zombies of popular culture to consume marijuana without being considered a stoner — this in spite of the fact that it is a derivative of the cannabis plant, a substance the federal government still considers a no-no. But how is it that this part of the plant doesn’t come with the high typically associated with weed? Well, that’s all science, baby. It was back in 1992 when scientists learned that the human body was equipped with what is called the Endocannabinoid system, ...
